More About Ardex
Founded over 50 years ago, Ardex started out as a joint venture between a Germany and Lafarge producing and importing just a few flooring products. By 1970 Ardex had set up a manufacturing facility in Essex and moved into the tile adhesive market.
Rapid growth forced a move to their current headquarters in Haverhill, Suffolk where they now produce the entire portfolio of tiling and building products. They now produce in many countries and supply worldwide.
Ardex invents products to make the installer’s job easier and eliminate the risk of problems after tiling has finished. This is why they have grown to be the professional’s choice and recognised by the construction industry as the leader in this field. Their expertise and knowledge has led them to be used in a number of prestigious projects throughout the UK including recently the Olympic Pool and Stadium for the 2012 Olympic Games.
Ardex’s longest standing product, and still a major force today, is Ardex X7. This versatile tile adhesive is ideal for a wide range of applications, including both internal and external tiles, pools and wetrooms, and even floors with underfloor heating.
To cope with the introduction of larger and more specialist tiles, the Ardex range has developed to include products specifically designed for certain applications. For example, the Ardex X7001 has been designed to be pourable from the bucket to facilitate solid bed fixing – this is essential for complying with today’s requirements for fixing large format tiles.
Other firsts to the market have been the invention of Ardex Microtec adhesives. These are actual microfibers and polymers that are added to the powder mix during manufacture. The benefits of Microtec adhesives include easier mixing (so you’re less likely to over-water your mix), as well as greater bond & tensile strength for a strong, long-lasting fit on both walls and floors.
Microtec adhesives also have double the amount of slump resistance over standard adhesives; this means you’ll get more coverage per square metre and you can complete the job with less adhesive. Current products that have this microtec fibre reinforced technology are Ardex X77, Ardex X78 and Ardex 7001.
If you’re installing natural stone tiles such as travertine and limestone, moisture from the adhesive can be absorbed into the stone, bringing deposits of stone to the surface which cause staining. Ardex’s rapid dry formula, included in Ardex S16 and other adhesive products, is designed to avoid this by chemically binding the mixed water and drying within itself.
